TTBB a cappella
Bawdy secular text in English by Seathrun Ceitinn
Difficulty rating (1-5): 3

Premiered by chicago a cappella, directed by Jonathan Miller, on April 9, 2004

This was given a run through by the men of The Princeton Singers at the Oxford Institutes in 2003. They had great fun with it, and proposed it could perhaps be sung up a while step to allow the tenors to shine a bit more. Sounds like typical tenor talk. Not a piece for the Puritan faint of heart who might have a hard time singing the word “breasts”. Dedicated to my son Shannon and his renegade male chorus, the Accafellaz.

TEXT

Will you be sensible, girl,
and take that hand away?
I'm not the man for the task,
be lovesick as you may.
Look how my hair is gray,
my body is unfit.
Now even my blood runs slow,
what can you hope from this?
Pray do not think me cruel,
oh do not hang your head,
of  course, I will always love you,
but not in bed!

Your curly, cluster'd hair,
your eyes more green than dew,
your fair white rounded breasts,
 these are incitements too.
Will you be sensible girl,
and take that hand away.
I'm not the man for the task,
be lovesick as you may.
