The Wexford carol (Good people all, this Christmastime)

SSAA a cappella

There is some uncertainty as to whether this tune is of Irish or English origin. I have set the text with the word stresses you might hear from an Irish balladeer. The Oxford Carol Book, as well as a setting by John Rutter, place the text stresses one beat earlier, which seems far less natural. The three wise men are depicted by a three-part stretto in verse four (a conscious homage to the three part stretto in This little babe in Britten's Ceremony of carols).
